Description
The Tangerine Solar Storm Clownfish is yet another Tangerine version of a popular Sea & Reef designer Clownfish. In this case we have created something completely unique by incorporating Tangerine genetics into our line of Solar Storm Clownfish. The Tangerine Solar Storm Clownfish has retained many of the characteristics of the Solar Storm Clownfish, including the crisp white body with extended white coloration into the fins and the reduced (area), but glowing orange pigment in part of the pectoral fins and caudal fins. The maine difference is the reduced black pigment, which gives the fins a smoky appearance. We have also noticed some really unique color displays in some specimens pectoral fins with unique patterns of white, orange and smoky dark (see group photo below) almost like an artist’s palette. The Tangerine mutation results in hypomelanistic expressions, meaning there is a reduction or lack of black pigment. The fact that some black pigment is still present in the fins and eyes suggests that the mutation did not destroy the melanin synthesis pathway completely. Our Tangerine Solar Storm Clownfish was released on March 15, 2024 and is another Sea & Reef first.

Temperament & Captive Care
The temperament and captive care requirements of this new designer Ocellaris Clownfish strain are very similar to that of the regular Ocellaris clownfish. It is a relatively peaceful and hardy clownfish. They thrive in saltwater aquariums with or without an anemone present.

Feeding
Most clownfish are omnivorous feeders, meaning that they will consume a variety of different food types. In nature the diet of clownfish consists of crustaceans (such as copepods and amphipods), algae, polychaete worms, and leftovers from the anemone’s meal. Our captive bred fish are conditioned to eat a variety of aquarium diets including pellets, flake food, frozen Mysis shrimp, and frozen brine shrimp.

Aquarium host anemones
This new designer clownfish will readily accept a wide variety of host anemones and many hobbyists keep it with the popular and hardy Bubble Tip Anemone (Entacmeaea quadricolor). As a reference the natural host anemones of the regular ocellaris clownfish are Magnificent Sea Anemone (Heteractis magnifica), Sebae Anemone (Heteractis crispa), and Giant Carpet Anemone (Stichodactyla gigantea).
